Introduction to Genomic Technologies

Genomic Data Science,

This course introduces you to the basic biology of modern genomics and the experimental tools that we use to measure it. We'll introduce the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology and cover how next-generation sequencing can be used to measure DNA, RNA, and epigenetic patterns. You'll also get an introduction to the key concepts in computing and data science that you'll need to understand how data from next-generation sequencing experiments are generated and analyzed. This is the first course in the Genomic Data Science Specialization.

A very basic and general introduction to the subject This course was a good introduction to this subject.

Good intro Great Course, well explained and enjoyable material.

Overall a good intro course.

Good introductory course, highly interdisciplinary.

A good introductory course!

Good introductory course.

Good introduction to the field Good presenters Poor illustrations during courseThank's There exit some details which I can't imagine.

Good Introduction!!!

Very good intro course.

Good introduction at an appropriate pace for people not overly familiar with the material.

Very good introductory course.

Good intro course!

Good introductory course Would've liked more technical information.

Seemed like there should have been more information, or have gone more in-depth good Very good introduction.

genomic technologies

A good introduction to Genomic Technologies including molecular biology, computer science and statistics.

good! I thoroughly enjoyed this course and look forward to complete the specialization A good introduction to Genomic Technologies.

:) Excellent short introduction to Genomic Technologies and a good starter course for the specialization.

Great foundation for Genomic Technologies !

Explains genomic technologies and important statistical tools needed to effectively start more in depth study.

A thorough, yet concise introduction to the specialization and to some of the technical difficulties associate with genomic technologies.

Its called an introduction to genomic technologies and that is basically what it is.

Nice, low commitment class to provide some background to genomic technologies.

Good intro for a non-biology person like myself This course gave me the basic terms and tools to start the understanding what genomic technologies are and how they have changed since they began.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in genomic technologies.

Good introduction to genomic technologies, could cover more information... but it is an introduction.

I learn a lot from this course about very basic knowledge and history of development of genomic technologies.

I really got an opportunity to learn genomic technologies from scratch.

Awesome Course to warm up before diving into the detailed courses related to genomic technologies.

genomic data science

The lessons are clear, understandable, move at a good pace, and are full of practical examples applying concepts to actual problems in genomic data science.

Very nice basic course so fundamental A good, very brief, overview of genomic data science covering basic molecular biology, techniques, CS and statistics.

Very timely and with sufficient information Good for debutants I think this course was a good introduction to various aspects of genomic data science.

I liked the section on statistics, where a real life example was used to motivate the importance of statistics in genomic data science.

The course is a good introduction into genomic data science, I disliked last week because teacher gave too many unnecessary information.

A great introductory course in genomic data science.

A good introduction to the topics and concepts in the field of genomic data science in general as well as the other courses in this specialisation.I did this course close to the last (6th) being a professional in the Bioscience field for some time and so the first three 'weeks' I pretty much did in a couple of hours with close to full marks (not a boast but a statement: this course will give you the overview I accumulated in the real world; there is nothing esoteric or missing from this course).

A Excellent introduction to the many different dimensions of genomic data science.

Good intro to genomic data science Somewhat easy for an introductory course, but good for people without prior background.

This is useful for me as I can employ those statistical Analyses knowledge in the near future Excellent course to start Genomic Data Science.

Introductory course for the subsequent genomic data science courses.

more basic than I was expecting A very concise but comprehensive overview of what to expect in the Genomic Data Science specialization course.

Increased my curiosity to learn more about genomic data science good class, learn a lot!

molecular biology

This is a good course and it will be smooth sailing I'f you have done biology, molecular biology degree or related.

The only negative was, that I found the final exam to be somewhat unrelated to the course.I am also hoping that there will be more references later on if we want or need to go deeper into these three areas, especially in the area of molecular biology.

Mostly, it is an interesting course, although it is very short - if a person knows something about molecular biology, then it is feasible to finish it a couple of hours.

Molecular biology basics were covered so quickly and with terms and concepts pulled almost out of thin air, anyone without a pretty substantial background would probably be lost fairly quickly.

You will need some basic knowledge in molecular biology and statistics in order to better understand video lectures It was a really good overview to step into the field.

I highly recommend this course for everybody who has literally no biological background and would like to learn something about Molecular Biology and Genomics.

I believe the molecular biology aspect was easy enough for someone without a background in biology or biochemistry to understand.

Gained good knowledge Quite good explanation of molecular biology and statistics.

Helped me get a lot more familiar and comfortable with genomics Very informative course to revise the important concepts of molecular biology and sequencing technologies Very well put together.

however, the primer of molecular biology and techniques could be more detailed.

computer science

Take this course if you have never heard of biology or computer science or statistics but avoid if you know even a little about these subjects.

it was really helpful and i could understand it even though i am a high school student This is a great course that covers a lot of ground very quickly, including an overview of the central dogma of biology, mitosis and meiosis, and basic concepts in computer science and statistics.

The last module and the final paper was a little confuse for whom is not from Biology (I'm from computer science).

Very basic introduction to genomics including both biology knowledge as well as computer science application in genomics.

Also, the computer science and statistical aspects were also explained in a clear way.

other courses

I have a background in biology and therefore found this course relatively easy, I mainly took it for completeness as I also intend to take the other courses in this series.

Overall I enjoyed the course and it encouraged me to continue taking the other courses of this specialization.

It provides a very good overview of what is to be expected in the other courses while at the same time establishing a good foundation for what is to come.

The final assessment I found a little quirky compared to the other courses I'd done being a comprehension style 'read a research paper + answer questions' rather than a 'enter the number of X given conditions Y applied to dataset Z' as many of the other course use.

Have tried a few other courses around introduction to genomic technologies but this is the best structured course I have taken.

data analysis

A good introductory course which lays a sound foundation for genome biology as well as genomic data analysis.

Let me know a lot of principles in the genomic data analysis.

This course briefs the basics required to understand the role of genomics and importance of statistics in big data analysis.

I think this is a great introductory course to genomic data analysis.

foundation for

Jeff Leek has shown through the Data Science specialisation that he is an effective MOOC instructor and this course is no different, well organised and sets a good foundation for what I hope are other equally wonderful courses in this specialisation (I am not signed up for the specialisation, but intend to take all courses in the series) which I am very much looking forward to!

This course lays out the foundation for the rest of the Specialization.
