Object Oriented Programming in Java

Object Oriented Java Programming: Data Structures and Beyond,

Welcome to our course on Object Oriented Programming in Java using data visualization. People come to this course with many different goals -- and we are really excited to work with all of you! Some of you want to be professional software developers, others want to improve your programming skills to implement that cool personal project that you’ve been thinking about, while others of you might not yet know why you’re here and are trying to figure out what this course is all about. This is an intermediate Java course. We recommend this course to learners who have previous experience in software development or a background in computer science. Our goal is that by the end of this course each and every one of you feels empowered to create a Java program that’s more advanced than any you have created in the past and that is personally interesting to you. In achieving this goal you will also learn the fundamentals of Object Oriented Programming, how to leverage the power of existing libraries, how to build graphical user interfaces, and how to use some core algorithms for searching and sorting data. And this course is project-based, so we’ll dive right into the project immediately! We are excited to be offering a unique course structure, designed to support learners of different backgrounds in succeeding at their own pace. The first module explains how this will work and if this course is right for you. We also recommend taking a few minutes to explore the course site. A good place to start is the navigation bar on the left. Click Course Content to see what material we’ll cover each week, as well preview the assignments you’ll need to complete to pass the course. Click Discussions to see forums where you can discuss the course material with fellow students taking the class. Be sure to introduce yourself to everyone in the Meet and Greet forum. This course should take about 6 weeks to complete. You can check out the recommended course schedule below to see a quick overview of the lessons and assignments you’ll complete each week. We’re excited you’re here learning with us. Let’s get started!

object oriented programming

course is really great introduction to object oriented programming .For the first week it seems daunting to apply to do as instructor for map project but after first week remaining week will start making sense of object oriented programming....

Feeling much more comfortable with Java at the end of the course, and object oriented programming.

I thought this course would be focused in Object Oriented Programming and all about the best practices, why not?

Best course to learn object oriented programming One suggestion i give to you that, please level of difficulty increase in a way that the learner not face to much thing in a single assignment.

Good for enhancing your object oriented programming skills.

Solid introduction to object oriented programming in Java Excellent Course!!!

The course itself was challenging to me and I learned a few object oriented programming concepts that can help me at work.

Starts from the basics of object oriented programming covering all the topics in intermediate details.

This course gave me really good insights into object oriented programming.

The course is really good , you will learn many basic stuffs about object oriented programming concepts Great course, it covers fundamentals of OOP and Java.

I learn a lot about Java and object oriented programming.

This course was a really comprehensive package explaining all the basic concepts of Object Oriented Programming .

Enroll this course if you intend to become a programmer and need fundamental knowledge in Object Oriented Programming.

Great way to learn object oriented programming.

easy to follow

good courseprovided by java with practical and perfect university teacher very clear and easy to follow Very straightforward and practical introduction to OO principals, and a good practice for early java learners.

Great one.... Great teaching strategy easy to follow and learn java skills This course made me understand java concepts in an easy way, and made me realize certain internal workings in Java I haven't seen elsewhere.

Very easy to follow and learn.

Very interesting Course and the way the instructors give the lessons are great and easy to follow.

I learned quite a lot and the course work was easy to follow and build knowledge from lesson to lesson.

Very Nice Course thx really explicit and easy to follow up, nice preparation and nice content.

So, it's very easy to follow.

The level of details use in lecture videos make this class really easy to follow.

This is an awesome course for OOPs Good explanations, easy examples and easy to follow Excellent Really great course!

Everything was really well explained but not too slow either, the way things were presented was easy to follow, but also interesting; touching subjects close to real life problems we might encounter.

Easy to follow!

so far

This is the best programming course I've seen so far.

So far so good Nice Course for Java Beginners Perfect course for intermediate programming in Java.

So far I love this course!

fun hacking The closest experience to the real programming job i had so far in the beginning of the course i thought i'll get a good experience as usual on coursera, but i was wrong ... a lot of things >> to be introduced in next courseconfusing data types & working with things i don't know about it.you've said that, anyone with basics of programming could pass this course and after 6 months i couldn't.

So far so good!

So far, I wrote code mainly in C++ and I have not really participated to very challenging programming assignments.

Looking for job (Unluckily so far ) I quickly realize that Java programming is really big on the job market.

☺ Liked the way Prof. has so far taught this course.

So far so good, guys :) Really helpfull!

Nicely explained and neat So far so good.

I am in week 1 and so far i can tell that the methodology of teaching is perfect in these courses.

fantastic course so far...and highly educative in its approach Cool stuff.

Two observations so far:1.)

I am on week 11 in this specialization, and so far very little has been mentioned about OOP concepts.

concept challenge

Concept challenge questions are mind blowing. They have targeted that part which is left by students while reading oops.

Liked, that they divided the videos into different stages (core, concept challenge, when I struggled), so you only have to watch the videos, that you find necessary.I hope the next course will be more interesting and challenging.

A combination of the CORE and concept challenges cleared up any muddled up concepts in my head.

Well explanation and a nice way to understand concept challenge.

The instructors are great and I love the concept challenge videos as they help clarify new concepts. The programming assignments are good although sometimes felt like they were not challenging enough.

The concept challenge questions clearly helps you to understand the subtle nuances that the instructor wants to explain .

Excellent approach to teaching Java; i loved the hands on, concept challenges and modules at the end of each course.

University of California did a great job!Thank you guys!Great course, concept challenges are very helpful and surprisingly one additional week for finishing up was wonderful idea - it helped me to finish last assignment on time.

I really like the concept challenge portion as it helps dig into the application of the concepts explained in the lecture.

real life

Love the way you explain the theoretical parts along with the real life experience sharing and group discussing.

Real life situations are used to explain OO principles.

With a lot of help from the lectures you develop a real life proyect since week 1, which is pretty awesome.

This course is for programmers that wanted to improve their techniques and knowledge of the language, since the course shorts videos with real life experiences, that give you advices on how their abilities and produce quality programms.

The most important is the exercise portion where you get an overview of programming language usage in real life .

real world

the combination of lectures, exercises, "in the real world" and supportive materials, is just superb.

:) Awesome course... Must have for anyone who wants to test his/her programming skills with real world data... very good information and very useful content.

relating it as much as possible to real world examples.

I think that if there is going to be programming assignments for students they should be provided in a form that at least uses current technologies, especially when advertised as "real world".

The professors tie in real world examples and help you understand why each concept is important beyond just the class, but for future jobs and programming assignments.

rather than

The projects felts like snippets of work, rather than enough work to retain the OOP concepts being used.

If assignments were programming rather than objective it would have been much better.

Instructors take the time to explain concepts rather than simply using them.

Would have preferred if the map was built incrementally, with me continuing each exercise with my own map rather than a new, supplied map each time.

But I felt the introduction of the map APIs along with the event handling kind of took away the learning towards the API rather than the actual topic.

figure out

I had really big issues with the GUI since I couldn't figure out how to set ECLIPSE / Video card driver to display correctly my GUI...Overall, the teachers were great and the courses awesome!there is a lot of new info and I had fun coding!Thank you!

For students at that awkward level where they have learned enough syntax to make basic small programs but can't figure out where to go from there, this course is absolutely perfect!

In the beginning it was a little confusing trying to figure out the superclasses even though the Javadocs for them were available.

The only reason I give it 4/5 is that a few of the project instructions were too vague to figure out what they were asking for (i.e.
