Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence,

What do self-driving cars, face recognition, web search, industrial robots, missile guidance, and tumor detection have in common?

They are all complex real world problems being solved with applications of intelligence (AI).

This course will provide a broad understanding of the basic techniques for building intelligent computer systems and an understanding of how AI is applied to problems.

You will learn about the history of AI, intelligent agents, state-space problem representations, uninformed and heuristic search, game playing, logical agents, and constraint satisfaction problems.

Hands on experience will be gained by building a basic search agent. Adversarial search will be explored through the creation of a game and an introduction to machine learning includes work on linear regression.

What you'll learn

  • Linear algebra (vectors, matrices, derivatives)
  • Calculus
  • Basic probability theory
  • Python programming
  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and intelligent agents, history of Artificial Intelligence
  • Building intelligent agents (search, games, logic, constraint satisfaction problems)
  • Machine Learning algorithms
  • Applications of AI (Natural Language Processing, Robotics/Vision)
  • Solving real AI problems through programming with Python

What people are saying

programming assignments

Although the quizzes were just a bit tough, the programming assignments were extremely hard (in a good way).

Expect to put a not insignificant amount of effort into the programming assignments which at times are on the challenging side.

Given that the instructor for CS188 (Dan Klein) is a star (thus unfair comparison) and that the course is archived, her presentation of the materials is ok.You still learn a lot about AI basics. However, there is no staff support and no answer to quiz question.Don't take it for a certificate.Nevertheless, the programming assignments are fun and doable.

The highlight of the course is the content: good lectures and five very interesting and informative programming assignments.

The programming assignments are interesting and rewarding but also require significant effort -- they require putting concepts that are covered in lectures at a fairly high level into practical, working use.

machine learning

No coherent structure (why spend 2 weeks on Machine Learning while there is another course from the program that focuses on Machine Learning).

Have completed many online courses at a higher level in terms of maths and machine learning.

There is considerable topic overlap although almost no subject-matter overlap between the two courses, by which I mean that for most topics covered in great depth in Machine Learning, this course provides an essential intro.
