张五常自称经济解释系列是“认真写成的最后一套经济学著作”。被世人公认为是集张五常平生学术功力之大成，也是具有深远影响的经济学经典著作。经济解释系列基本囊括了张教授毕生的学术思想精髓。
1982年，张教授在港大的就职演说中倡导：让我们做经济解释的弄潮儿。这套经济解释系列图书，正是这一思想的贯彻，也开拓了经济解释方法的先河。
这次推出的《经济解释五卷本：二O一九增订版》,包括《科学说需求》《收入与成本》《受价与觅价》《合约的一般理论》《国家理论与经济解释的理论结构》，共5卷。
张五常对之前4卷本再次进行增补，对卷一、卷二、卷三都有修订，对原来的卷四进行了拆分大修，形成现在的卷四和卷五。这一版《经济解释》是蕞新蕞完整的修订版，也算是其封笔之作。
