Brief Guide to Project Management

Kenneth Abernethy

This book provides a brief guide to the fundamental processes of the discipline of project management, and how these processes serve as a set of umbrella processes overseeing and facilitating the underlying product development life cycle for the actual product being built. The ideas presented in this book offer IT professionals the concepts, tools, and techniques that have proved essential for project management to ensure that the right product is being built, that the work schedule and budget are carefully managed and adjusted as necessary against established baselines, and that the overall product is delivered to and accepted by the customer. Topics covered the five major project management process initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling, and closing. Additional topics include the facilitating systemic processes of risk management, quality assurance, and communication. Within each of the five major process groups and the facilitating systemic processes, the book will explore sub-processes, tools, and techniques that enable the project manager to ensure that the overall project is completed efficiently and effectively.
