Refugee Case Worker
When working as a Refugee Case Worker, you provide aid to refugees and asylum seekers. The primary work is to improve their lives by advocating for them, helping them find housing, providing job training and placement, and offering counseling. As people are coming from varying situations, knowledge of social services is required to effectively provide refugees and asylum seekers with needed resources.
Types of Work
As a Refugee Case Worker, you will work with a wide range of clients, from individuals to families to large groups. You may work in a variety of settings, such as refugee camps, resettlement centers, or community-based organizations. Your day-to-day work may include:
- Providing information and guidance to refugees and asylum seekers about their rights and responsibilities
- Helping refugees and asylum seekers find housing, food, and other basic needs
- Providing job training and placement assistance
- Offering counseling and support to refugees and asylum seekers who have experienced trauma
- Advocating for refugees and asylum seekers with government agencies and other organizations
Refugee Case Workers can also engage in the following projects:
- Conduct community outreach to identify and assist refugees and asylum seekers
- Develop and implement programs and services to meet the needs of refugees and asylum seekers
- Train and supervise volunteers and staff who work with refugees and asylum seekers
