Responsibilities

The responsibilities for a community psychologist are varied, depending on the specific community they serve and the issues that affect the community. Those that work in this role may conduct research and participate in community outreach or advocacy to help make improvements in their community.

Education and Training

The vast majority of community psychologists have earned a PhD in community psychology or a related field, such as social psychology, clinical psychology, or counseling psychology. There are several online courses available that can help you to prepare for a career in community psychology.

Skills

Community psychologists work with a wide range of people, from community leaders to residents, and must have a strong understanding of social and community issues, such as poverty, crime, and racism.
