Airline Transport Pilot

Airline Transport Pilots are certified pilots who operate commercial passenger and cargo aircraft. Airline Transport Pilots often work for airlines and operate on a published schedule or on an as-needed basis to transport passengers and cargo.

Responsibilities

Airline Transport Pilots are responsible for transporting passengers and cargo, while ensuring safety and comfort throughout the flight. They perform tasks prior to the flight, during the flight, and after the flight.

Prior to a flight, a pilot is responsible for planning the flight, which includes calculating the fuel needed and weather checks. An Airline Transport Pilot may also perform pre-flight checks of the aircraft to ensure it meets all safety requirements. Once passengers have boarded the aircraft, Airline Transport Pilots are responsible for the safety of all passengers on board the aircraft. They direct the flight crew and ensure all passengers are following safety guidelines. During the flight, Airline Transport Pilots navigate the aircraft, communicate with air traffic control, and adjust the flight path as necessary. After a flight, Airline Transport Pilots are responsible for completing paperwork, including the flight log and any maintenance issues.
