Aquaculture Technician

Aquaculture Technicians play critical roles within the growing field of aquaculture. Aquaculture is a branch of agriculture that focuses on the breeding, rearing, and harvesting of fish and other aquatic organisms in controlled environments. Aquaculture Technicians play a crucial support role for Aquaculture Engineers and Scientists by managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of aquaculture systems, ensuring the health and well-being of aquatic organisms, and monitoring water quality and feeding to support the growth and production of these organisms.

Responsibilities

As an Aquaculture Technician, your key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring and maintaining water quality parameters (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen) to ensure optimal conditions for aquatic organisms
• Feeding and observing aquatic organisms to ensure proper growth and health
• Maintaining and cleaning aquaculture systems (tanks, filters, pumps) to ensure proper water flow and prevent disease
• Assisting in the collection of data on growth rates, feed consumption, and water quality to support research and development initiatives
• Adhering to safety protocols and regulations to ensure the well-being of aquatic organisms and the safety of the technicians
