Pest Management Specialists are employed to control pests in homes, businesses, and other buildings. This can involve identifying the type of pest, determining the extent of the infestation, and developing and implementing a plan to eliminate the pests. Pest Management Specialists may also be responsible for educating clients on how to prevent future infestations.
Understanding the Role
Pest Management Specialists typically work in one of two settings: commercial or residential. Commercial Pest Management Specialists work with businesses to control pests in a variety of settings, including offices, restaurants, and warehouses. Residential Pest Management Specialists work with homeowners to control pests in their homes. Both commercial and residential Pest Management Specialists may specialize in a particular type of pest, such as rodents, insects, or birds.
Becoming a Pest Management Specialist
There are two main paths to becoming a Pest Management Specialist: through formal education or through on-the-job training. Many Pest Management Specialists have a bachelor's degree in entomology, pest management, or a related field. Others may have a high school diploma or equivalent and have gained experience working in the pest management industry.
