Informático, sometimes referred to as computer science, is the science of information storage, retrieval, and computation. Those who work in this field are referred to as computer scientists or informaticians and they work with information at a more theoretical level than computer programmers or software developers. Informaticians fuse theoretical and practical knowledge to solve problems in the real world. Those working in this industry are employed in a variety of sectors including business, industry, government, and education. They are responsible for designing, developing, and implementing computer systems, as well as researching new approaches to computing.

Within the field of computer science, there are many subfields that informaticians may choose to specialize in. Some of the most common areas of specialization for computer scientists include artificial intelligence (AI), computer graphics, computer networks, database management, information security, software engineering, and web development.
