Tree Surgeon
Tree Surgeons are horticulture experts who specialize in the care and maintenance of trees. They are responsible for assessing the health of trees, diagnosing and treating diseases and pests, removing hazardous branches, and pruning and shaping trees to improve their appearance and structural integrity. Tree Surgeons may also be involved in planting new trees and providing advice on tree care to homeowners and businesses.
Responsibilities
The day-to-day responsibilities of a Tree Surgeon may include:
- Assessing the health of trees and diagnosing diseases and pests
- Prescribing and administering treatments for tree diseases and pests
- Removing hazardous branches and pruning and shaping trees
- Planting new trees and providing advice on tree care
- Working with homeowners and businesses to develop and implement tree care plans
Education and Training
Tree Surgeons typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, and many have a degree in horticulture, forestry, or a related field.
In addition to formal education, Tree Surgeons must also complete an apprenticeship program to gain practical experience. Apprenticeship programs typically last for three to four years and include on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
