Product Cost Accountants work to analyze how much it costs a business to create their products or services. They also provide information to help management make decisions about how to improve efficiency and profitability.

Education and Training

In order to become a Product Cost Accountant, you may consider earning a degree in accounting, business, or finance. While a bachelor's degree is often enough to enter this career, an MBA or Master's degree may help when competing for higher-level positions. It is important to understand that many employers may only consider candidates with CPA certification, which requires passing a rigorous exam, meeting continuing education requirements, and adhering to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.

Skills

To work as a Product Cost Accountant, you must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You must be able to create and interpret financial reports, effectively communicate financial information to stakeholders, and stay up-to-date on accounting standards and regulations. Proficient in the use of accounting software is also a must.
