An aircraft electrician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of aircraft electrical systems. They work on a variety of aircraft, from small private planes to large commercial airliners. Responsibilities
The responsibilities of an aircraft electrician include:
- Inspecting and testing electrical systems

- Installing and replacing electrical components
- Maintaining and repairing aircraft lighting systems
- Working with other aircraft maintenance personnel to ensure the safety and reliability of aircraft
Education and Training
Most aircraft electricians have a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers may require an associate's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field. Aircraft electricians must also complete an approved training program. These programs typically cover electrical theory, aircraft electrical systems, and troubleshooting and repair techniques.
Certifications
Aircraft electricians must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To obtain an FAA certification, aircraft electricians must pass a written exam and a practical exam. Aircraft electricians must also complete continuing education credits every three years to maintain their certification.
