There are many online courses available that cover a wide range of topics, such as anatomy, physiology, and exercise science. These courses can be a great way to prepare for part-time or full-time studies to enter into DPT, develop your skills in an existing career in DPT or a field adjacent to DPT, or pivot towards DPT.
Pathways to Become a Doctor of Physical Therapy
There are several pathways to becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy. One common pathway is to earn a bachelor's degree in a related health field, such as exercise science, kinesiology, or biology. After completing a bachelor's degree, you will need to complete an accredited DPT program. DPT programs typically take 3 years to complete and include coursework in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and clinical practice. Once you have completed a DPT program, you will be eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE). Passing the NPTE is required to practice as a DPT in the United States.
