Environmental Education Specialist
Environmental Education Specialists are tasked with utilizing environmental education in the classroom and in outdoor spaces, with the goal of informing students about the natural world around them, as well as developing within them Environmental Literacy and encouraging stewardship of natural resources.
The Environmental Education Specialist's Role
Environmental Education Specialists use a multidisciplinary approach to environmental education. They may teach lessons on scientific concepts that apply to the environment and the effect humans have on it, as well as facilitate outdoors experiences, such as nature walks, hikes, or camping trips.
The role of Environmental Education Specialists is to promote environmental awareness and teach natural resource conservation. They work with students of all ages, from preschool through college, as well as with community groups and the general public.
Education and Training
Environmental Education Specialists typically have a bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental education, or a related field. Some positions may require a master's degree or higher. Additionally, many Environmental Education Specialists complete coursework in education or pedagogy.
