Those in this career must stay informed of the frequent changes to tax laws in order to provide accurate and reliable tax advice to those they serve. Which may include representing clients in dealings with tax authorities.

Career Options within Registered Tax Preparer

There are many different career options within the field of tax preparation. Some Registered Tax Preparers choose to work for accounting firms, while others work for tax software companies or financial institutions. Still others choose to start their own tax preparation businesses.

The type of work that a Registered Tax Preparer does will vary depending on their employer. Those who work for accounting firms may be responsible for preparing a variety of tax returns, including individual, business, and estate tax returns. They may also be responsible for providing tax advice to clients.

Those who work for tax software companies may be responsible for developing and testing tax software. They may also be responsible for providing training and support to tax professionals who use the software.

Those who work for financial institutions may be responsible for preparing tax returns for the institution's clients. They may also be responsible for providing tax advice to clients.

Those who start their own tax preparation businesses may be responsible for all aspects of the business, including marketing, client relations, and tax preparation.
