Crop Insurance Specialists evaluate and assess the risks involved in crop production. They assess the potential for crop damage or loss due to weather events, pests, or diseases. They also evaluate the financial impact of crop damage or loss. Crop Insurance Specialists work with farmers and other agricultural producers to develop and implement crop insurance policies. They also work with insurance companies to adjust and settle crop insurance claims.

Job Duties

Crop Insurance Specialists typically perform the following duties:

  • Evaluate and assess the risks involved in crop production
  • Assess the potential for crop damage or loss due to weather events, pests, or diseases
  • Evaluate the financial impact of crop damage or loss
  • Develop and implement crop insurance policies
  • Work with farmers and other agricultural producers to adjust and settle crop insurance claims
  • Provide guidance to farmers and other agricultural producers on how to reduce the risk of crop damage or loss
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in crop insurance and agricultural practices

Education and Training

Crop Insurance Specialists typically need at least a bachelor's degree in agriculture, economics, or a related field. They also need to have a strong understanding of crop insurance and agricultural practices. Crop Insurance Specialists can obtain certification from the American Association of Crop Insurers (AACI). Certification requires passing an exam and completing continuing education courses.
