A Natural Product Developer is a scientist who researches, develops, and produces natural products for use in a variety of industries, including food, beverage, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Natural Product Developers work with a variety of plant and animal materials to identify and extract compounds that have potential commercial value. They also develop and optimize processes for producing these compounds on a large scale.
Education and Training
Most Natural Product Developers have a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field. Some may also have a master's degree or doctorate. Coursework in organic chemistry, biochemistry, and plant science is typically required. Natural Product Developers should also have a strong understanding of analytical chemistry and microbiology.
