Community Advocate
Community Advocates are individuals who strive to support and help communities overcome difficulties and achieve their goals. This could include working with at-risk youth, families, or individuals in need of assistance. If you are passionate about helping others and making a difference in your community, this could be the right career for you.
Day-to-Day Tasks
Community Advocates often work with a variety of organizations such as non-profits, government agencies, or community centers. These Advocates may also work with individuals in need of assistance in their homes or in the community. Some of the tasks that Community Advocates may complete on a daily basis include:
- Providing emotional support and counseling to individuals in need
- Assisting with social service programs such as food stamps or housing assistance
- Advocating for individuals in need with organizations or government agencies
- Providing information and resources to individuals in need
- Working with other professionals such as social workers, counselors, and teachers
Skills and Knowledge
Community Advocates should be passionate about helping others and have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in need. Some of the skills and knowledge that are helpful for Community Advocates include:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
