Information Technology (IT) Support Specialists configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot computer systems and networks to ensure they are running smoothly and efficiently. They provide technical support to computer users, often remotely, by phone or email. IT Support Specialists also help to ensure the security of computer systems and networks and keep up-to-date on the latest technology trends.
Skills and Knowledge
IT Support Specialists need to have a strong understanding of computer hardware and software, as well as networking and security concepts. They also need to be able to communicate effectively with users and colleagues, both verbally and in writing. IT Support Specialists typically have a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The day-to-day responsibilities of an IT Support Specialist vary depending on the size and structure of the organization they work for. In general, however, they are responsible for the following tasks:
