Social Justice Activist
Social justice activists dedicate their lives to giving a voice to the voiceless and fighting for those who are marginalized, or denied basic human rights. They work to change unjust social systems and policies at local, national, or global levels and work on issues that can include race, gender equality, and climate change.
What Does a Social Justice Activist Do?
The day-to-day work of social justice activists can vary based on their field of specialization, their campaign’s goals, or the needs of the populations with which they work. Activists often engage with community members, organizing them for protest and to raise awareness of an issue. Activists may work with elected officials to push for changes in public policy. And they can conduct research, give speeches, advocate for individuals, and engage in direct action.
How to Become a Social Justice Activist
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to becoming a social justice activist.
Many activists begin by volunteering or working with organizations that align with their interests.
