Construction Contract Manager
The Construction Contract Manager is responsible for overseeing the contractual aspects of construction projects. They work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all parties are meeting their obligations and that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
Responsibilities
The Construction Contract Manager is responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:
- Developing and negotiating contracts with contractors
- Administering contracts and ensuring that all parties are meeting their obligations
- Resolving disputes between contractors and other stakeholders
- Managing change orders and other contract modifications
- Preparing and submitting progress reports to clients
- Ensuring that all construction work is completed in accordance with the contract documents
- Representing the client in legal proceedings, if necessary
Qualifications
Construction Contract Managers typically have a bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field, complemented by a master's degree in business administration (MBA). Most careers require licensure, as well as additional certifications depending on the state in which one is employed. Common certifications include the Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or the Certified Construction Contract Manager (CCCM) from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). Most roles require five to ten years of experience in construction management, with a focus on contract administration. They must have a strong understanding of construction law and contract administration, as well as excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
