Licensed Electrician
Licensed Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in homes, businesses, and other buildings. They may also work on electrical equipment, such as motors, generators, and transformers. Licensed Electricians must have a strong understanding of electrical theory and safety procedures. They must also be able to read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics. Licensed Electricians typically complete an apprenticeship program or earn an associate degree in electrical technology.
Education
Most Licensed Electricians complete an apprenticeship program or earn an associate degree in electrical technology. Apprenticeship programs typically last four years and include both classroom instruction and on-the-job training. Associate degree programs typically take two years to complete and include coursework in electrical theory, safety procedures, and electrical code compliance. Some Licensed Electricians may also choose to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
