A Baseball General Manager is the highest-ranking official in a baseball organization's baseball operations department and is responsible for all aspects of the team's on-field performance, including player acquisition, player development, and game strategy. Baseball General Managers work closely with the team's manager, coaches, and scouts to make decisions about the team's roster, playing style, and overall strategy.
Education and Training
There is no one-size-fits-all educational path to becoming a Baseball General Manager. Some General Managers have a background in playing professional baseball, while others have a background in scouting, coaching, or player development. However, most Baseball General Managers have at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to baseball, such as sports management, business, or economics.
Skills and Abilities
Baseball General Managers need to have a deep understanding of the game of baseball, as well as strong analytical and decision-making skills.
