Corporate Governance Specialists works closely with a company's board of directors and senior management to provide guidance on the following matters:
- Ensuring that the company is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, both domestic and international. Advising the board of directors on their legal obligations, and helping them to develop policies and procedures that promote good governance.
- Working with the company's management team to develop and implement corporate governance policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Providing training and education to employees on corporate governance matters.
- Monitoring the company's governance practices and reporting on their findings to the board of directors and senior management.
- Representing the company in dealings with shareholders, regulators, government agencies, and the general public.
How to Become a Corporate Governance Specialist
To become a Corporate Governance Specialist, you will typically need a bachelor's degree in business, law, or a related field. Many Corporate Governance Specialists also have an MBA or a Master's degree in Corporate Governance or a related field. Additionally, many of these professionals have earned certifications from the Society for Corporate Governance (SCG) or the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), such as the Certified Corporate Governance Professional (CCGP) or the Corporate Governance Fellow (CGF) certification.
