The role of a Career Guidance Counselor is many-sided and challenging and can be an excellent career choice for educated and enthusiastic professionals who like working with people of all ages. Career Guidance Counselors draw upon a wide range of skills and knowledge to provide support, guidance, and counseling to individuals looking to make career decisions and manage their careers. They help clients with vocational assessment, career exploration, resume writing, and interview skills. Given the relatively low unemployment rate in the career and high job satisfaction, it would be difficult to go wrong pursuing a Career Guidance Counselor position.

Job Responsibilities of a Career Guidance Counselor

Career Guidance Counselors have a host of duties they perform on a daily basis, some of which include:

  • Conducting individual and group counseling sessions
  • Administering career interest and aptitude assessments
  • Providing assistance with resume writing, interviewing, and job search strategies
  • Developing and implementing career counseling programs
  • Collaborating with other professionals such as teachers, social workers, and psychologists

Career Guidance Counselors may work in schools, colleges, universities, government agencies, and private practice. They may work with people of all ages, from students who are just beginning to think about their careers to adults who are changing careers or seeking advancement.
