Dedicated to preserving the human body in art and science, Medical Photographers take photographs of patients, medical procedures, and specimens for use in medical documentation, research, and education.

Duties

Medical Photographers are responsible for operating and maintaining specialized photography equipment to take high-quality images for various medical purposes, including:

  • Documentation: Capturing visual records of patients' conditions, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
  • Research: Contributing to medical studies by photographing experiments, data, and specimens.
  • Education: Creating visual materials for textbooks, medical journals, and presentations.

Qualifications

Medical Photographers typically hold an associate's or bachelor's degree in photography or a related field, combined with specialized training in medical photography techniques. Relevant certifications, such as the Registered Medical Photographer (RMP) credential from the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (SIST), demonstrate proficiency and commitment to the field.
