The Arabic Sociolinguist researches the relationship between Arabic dialects and social and cultural factors. As Arabic Sociolinguists, scholars study the impact that gender, class, ethnicity, and region have on the use of Arabic. Arabic Sociolinguists may work in academia, research institutions, or government agencies.
Background and Education
Arabic Sociolinguists typically hold a Master’s Degree, or in many cases a Ph.D., in sociolinguistics, linguistics, or a related field. These programs typically include coursework in sociolinguistics, dialectology, Arabic language, and research methods.
Although not required, Arabic Sociolinguists may also pursue certifications that demonstrate proficiency in Arabic language and culture. These certifications may be offered by professional organizations or language learning institutions.
