Do you know that great looking photos can dramatically make a difference in what the perceived value is of the item you are photographing? Yes, it’s true. Several years ago I started helping my wife build her eBay business while creating the photos of jewelry and small products that she was selling. Over and over again I saw her sell her items on eBay for many times more than what she paid for them. Her items sometimes would sell for 35 or 50 times more than what she paid. Sometimes even more than that.

What’s the difference between the items? Nothing, except the photos that she showed were beautiful. They were lit and composed beautifully, had interesting backgrounds and overall, had the look that you might see in the photographs displayed at high end jewelers and department stores. As the result, this gave them a much higher perceived value and her customers were willing to pay more for these items.

You are probably wondering, what’s the big deal? What makes these photos look so great? Can anyone learn to take photos like these? Yes, I absolutely believe anyone can? Here’s why:

I have been a professional photographer for many years. Our studio specialized in portrait & wedding photography and we were quite busy. When she asked me to help her take her photos of jewelry and small products she started selling, I started doing so in a simple, easy and quick way since I didn’t have too much time to spend on her photos, I was quite busy taking my own photos and running the studio.

What started as a simple and quick photo session of her items, has evolved through the years. I was able to fine tune the lighting, the set-up and overall way we photographed her items. Our method has remained simple, quick, easy to learn, and consistent. We step into our small studio room we have designated for taking these photos, turn on the lights, and begin the photography.

This course is based on using an iPhone for your camera, along with certain apps that can help you improve your photography and editing of your jewelry and small products. You will learn to take beautiful professional looking photographs using your phone or tablet, or any other camera really.

Also covered in this course are several lighting techniques that you can use along with light modifiers to help you fine tune your images to professional levels.

If you would like to learn how you can take photos of the small products or jewelry using your phone's camera, consider enrolling in this course. Instead of photographing your items on a carpet or bed spread with bad lighting. Say NO to bad photos and start making more money. Whether you are selling your own products on your own website or small products on eBay, I truly believe this course can help you.

A look at the phone I'm using along with accessories that can help take out frustration with your gear when doing your small product photography.

Here we look at my main LED light source and the different adjustments that you can use with them to help you fine tune the final image that you'd like to get with them. We'll also look at other accessories, such as a shoe mount umbrella holder along with an umbrella that you can use to get a beautiful soft light source. Other accessories such as quick releases and light stands are also discussed.

If you're just starting out and on a very tight budget, using two of these very economical light sources can give you amazing lighting results, especially when combined with light modifiers.

Occasionally I'll add another light source, whether it's used as a kicker light or back light, this light can add in helping your item look even better.

This type of light source is relatively inexpensive and when adding the right light modifiers can produce outstanding images.

Window light can be a beautiful soft light source. In this segment we photograph our small product using window light along with a light modifier.

Fine-tune their lighting technique with the use of the right reflectors & light modifiers.

Here we go step by step as I make a simple but very effective reflector for our jewelry & small product photography.

Using several different types of reflectors, we can see the difference each one can make and help you choose which one works best for the item you are photographing.

More on Reflectors

If you're photographing gold or silver items, here's a light modifier that you must use to help you soften and reduce reflections. It will also help you enhance the tone of your gold or silver items.

Be able to setup their table and learn about the many different props and background choices available.

In addition to your table, we look at a couple ways on which you can set up your backgrounds.

Here are more ways you can setup your background easily.

Using this type of table gives us the ability to minimize shadows and add backlight capabilities in the amount we choose.

In addition to white backgrounds, there are other backgrounds that we use to help make our product stand out .

Props can be an interesting way of making your items look their best. Here we look at several ways you can set them up and use them.

Setup their light box so they get the most from it. This can be an excellent way to light your products.

A look at customizing and getting the most from your light box.

A demo of how we set up props inside our light box along with light modifiers you can use.

This is the start of our heart necklace photoshoot using one of our props in the light box.

Our photoshoot continues as we start to look at the results you can get by shooting in Portrait Mode.

Using our hand prop, we can see the different results we get by our camera adjustments.

Shooting in Photo Mode vs Portrait Mode - 02:52 - When advertising and showcasing your product, use this technique to make your product stand out.

After we photograph our images using our light box, when it comes to image editing small product & jewelry photography there's 3 main things I do in my workflow for efficiency.

Using the iphone's built in camera app, along with two other apps for image editing, part 1 starts off our post processing of the heart necklace from our photoshoot.

Post Process Heart Necklace part 2

Part 3 continues with a look at the 3 main reasons I want to do image editing to my jewelry & small product photography. Then, we discuss more on depth control.

Understand & use different lighting techniques and gear to create great looking face jug or similar small product images.

A brief intro before we start our Face Jug photoshoot.

We start with a simple 1 light setup, then add light modifiers giving us more control over our final image.

Gold Bracelet Photoshoot A Change of Background & Direction

Here's another setup we use to add more variety to our collection of images.

By adding a second light, along with our diffuser, we can greatly improve the gold tone in our bracelet. (see the improvement in our gold tone.)

Another look as we use overhead lighting along with a black & sparkle background.

See the different results we get when photographing this flower pin using 3 different variations.

We can further improve the look of our images with a couple of tools in Snapseed when we want to get ride of unwanted dust spots, glare, and even add a little bit of enhancement to our image.

Looking for a good macro lens? No need to spend a lot of money on a new lens. Using the Camera +2 app on your phone or tablet can get you in close when you need to do macro photography. Shooting in Portrait Mode is another feature Camera +2 offers when you need to knock the background out of focus.

Here's a look at an app that lets you easily resize any of your images taken on your phone. Then, we look at another feature or two that can be very useful.

Transferring your photos from your phone to your desktop, laptop or portable hard drive is easy when you use this app.

Use this program to view and organize your images on your desktop or laptop. You can even do your image editing with this program.

When using your desktop or laptop, here's a few basic image editing techniques you can use in Adobe Photoshop.

Use this technique to make your product you are photographing stand out so the viewers attention goes more to your product.

Although this amazing program can be used for enhancing your jewelry or small product photography, you can also use it to enhance any other type of photography you are doing. With thousands of effects you can use to enhance your images, use it for portrait, landscape, wildlife, street, wedding photography and anything else you can capture.
