Google Cloud Training

This is a self-paced lab that takes place in the Google Cloud console.

In this lab, you create a Cloud Composer environment using the GCP Console. You then use the Airflow web interface to run a workflow that verifies a data file, creates and runs an Apache Hadoop wordcount job on a Dataproc cluster, and deletes the cluster.

Hands-on cloud composer quick start

According to learners, this course provides a solid and practical introduction to Cloud Composer, Apache Airflow, and Dataproc on Google Cloud. Students particularly value the hands-on nature, enabling them to gain practical experience with workflow orchestration. While many found the steps clear and the lab environment effective, a recurrent point of feedback is occasional minor mismatches between the lab instructions and the current GCP Console UI, which can lead to slight troubleshooting. It is generally considered a quick start rather than a deep dive, best suited for those new to Composer or seeking a foundational, console-based understanding.
Offers a solid quick start to Google Cloud Composer.
"This lab was a solid introduction to Cloud Composer. It definitely gives you a good feel for orchestrating workflows with Airflow on GCP. Good for someone new to Composer."
"Great first exposure to Cloud Composer. The steps are well-documented and the lab environment worked flawlessly for me. It's a fundamental lab for anyone looking into GCP data orchestration."
"It does what it says - a qwik start, but not comprehensive. Good for absolute beginners."
Provides practical experience with Cloud Composer.
"Fantastic hands-on experience! I've been wanting to learn Cloud Composer and this lab perfectly bridges the gap between theory and practice."
"A very practical lab that guides you step-by-step. I appreciated the focus on the console which is essential for understanding the underlying infrastructure."
"Excellent for getting your feet wet with Cloud Composer. The hands-on setup and running of a DAG through the Airflow UI was very helpful."
GCP environment setup can be slow.
"It can be a bit slow to provision the environment, but that's a GCP thing, not the lab itself."
"The provisioning time was long."
Minimal explanations mean some concepts require prior understanding.
"I found some parts a little fast-paced, especially if you're not familiar with Hadoop or Dataproc concepts."
"The explanations are minimal, which is fine for a lab, but means you need external resources if you want to truly understand what's happening behind the scenes, especially with Airflow concepts."
"It's a quick start, so don't expect deep dives."
Some console screenshots may not match current GCP UI.
"My main issue was that some console screenshots seemed a bit outdated, which caused minor confusion but was manageable."
"The lab instructions had some issues with the console UI not matching exactly, leading to some frustration."
"Outdated screenshots and some commands didn't work as expected. This made the lab much harder than it needed to be."
