In particular, upon completion of the course, you will be able to: • Describe skills-based hiring, identify and characterize job-specific skills in your area of expertise or interest, identify and analyze a specific skill set which is commonly required in your area of expertise or interest, and develop a process for systematically analyzing and auditing your skills ("skills management lab"). • Describe principles of valid and reliable skills assessment, identify standards and benchmarks for assessing mastery of skill acquisition, implement techniques for assessing mastery of skill acquisition, and develop a process for gathering benchmarks and assessment tools/techniques for skills assessment. • Describe principles of valid and reliable self-assessment, self-assess your mastery in performing a given job-specific skill and verify results by using peer/expert feedback, objectively estimate your likely total skill set score for a given job-specific skill set and prepare a skill set review summary, and develop a process for gathering benchmarks and assessment tools/techniques for accurate self-assessment of skills. • Describe self-quantification and its significance in effective skills management, describe SMART skill-building goals and their application to skills management, plan and execute a skill-building training intervention using SMART skill-building goals, and create a system for documenting your skill acquisition levels and receiving peer and expert feedback.
