-This is the first impression you build with the children when you introduce them to quantities (Numbers). It is the first Montessori Material you use to introduce the child to numbers. In 3-6 class they have already been working with a similar material in the sensorial area called "Red Rods"
Direct Aim:
To give the child a sensorial impression of quantity.
Indirect Aim:
Introduction to measurement and the decimal system (Hundred, tens, ones)
This is the second presentation in the 3-6 Math curriculum after the number rods. Before this lesson they were introduced to the concrete sense of numerals (Number Rods). Now they need to move to a more abstract level using the sandpaper numerals.
Direct Aim:
To give the child a sensorial impression of the form of the symbol that corresponds to the quality.
To show the succession of numbers
To show base 10
Recognition of numerals 0-9
Indirect Aim:
Preparation for writing and sequencing
This lesson comes after introducing the number rods only (Concrete) and the sandpaper numerals (Abstract). You can present only the number rods with the numerals that you have already covered with the child using the sandpaper. So if you have only introduced with the sandpaper the numbers from 1-6 then only lay out the number rods from 1-6.
Numerals will be placed in order and sequence in this presentation. In the next lecture they will be placed randomly

The stamp game is considered as one of the core materials of Montessori as it lays the passage from the concrete level with operations to abstraction.
