What are PanPastels?

PanPastels are a fantastic, flexible and fun medium to work with. They are soft and can be applied using various sponges to your pastel paper. They are a looser medium and you can create beautiful impressionistic paintings with them.

The PanPastel set I use is the 10 Painting Set of PanPastels. The colours in this set are the following:

  • Hansa Yellow 220.5

  • Yellow Ochre 270.5

  • Permanent Red 340.5

  • Violet 470.5

  • Ultramarine Blue 520.5

  • Phthalo Green 620.5

  • Burnt Sienna 740.5

  • Raw Umber 780.5

  • Black 800.5

  • Titanium White 100.5

The paper I use is Sand Coloured PastelMat Paper. It has a sandpaper like texture and if you don't have this you can use another similar textured paper like UART 800 Grade Paper.

I also use Pastel Pencils to add some additional detail. You can choose to use your own pencils but here's the ones I use:

Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils

  • 106 light chrome yellow

  • 174 chrome green opaque

  • 181 payne's grey

  • 192 indian red

  • 199 black

  • 101 white

Caran d'Ache Pastel Pencils

  • 243 light olive 20%

STABILO Carbothello Pastel Pencils

  • 310 carmine red
