FAA Drone Pilot Part 107 Test Preparation

Heads up! This course may be archived and/or unavailable.

Being a certified drone pilot can be a game changer.

According to CNN, drone jobs are in high demand, with big companies, such as Amazon and Facebook, looking for pilots who fly drones (paying about $50 an hour, or over $100,000 a year). The industry is expected to create 100,000 new jobs over the next ten years.

Unmanned Aerial Systems represent a fast growing field with countless application possibilities.

This OSU-backed course in conjunction with VDOS takes the guesswork out of becoming a drone pilot. It focuses on the complex topics that make up the test and will help walk you through the test and the proper paperwork necessary to be a certified drone pilot!

Being drone certified and being able to get a birds-eye view and access remote areas can be ideal for:

To fly your unmanned aircraft system (UAS - aka "drone") professionally, you'll first need to pass the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) exam in order to be a certificated Remote Pilot.

This new course is your first step by preparing you for the FAA Drone Pilot Part 107 Test and provides an excellent supplement to other, more detailed study guides.

Basically, if you fly drones professionally or want to utilize it in your business (think real estate), you're viewed as a commercial drone pilot, so you'll need an official remote pilot certificate.

This participation provides unique capabilities for testing UAS in a variety of applications. Oregon State University has more than 30 active FAA certificates of authorization to conduct UAS test flights.

The "drone exam" is a test made up of 60 multiple choice questions. You'll have two hours to complete it and you have to score a 70 or higher.

From the FAA site, the initial aeronautical knowledge test will include:

Once you're ready for the test, you'll need to take it at an approved testing center, and are conducted by:

You can call them for your nearest testing center, or you can call the testing center directly.

Oregon State is a member of the Pan-Pacific Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Test Range Complex, one of six FAA-approved test range areas.
