Cutting Double Sided Automotive Keys By Code

Using a laser key cutting machine or manual code cutting machine to cut a car key by the key code involves precise steps and specialized equipment. Here's a general guide:

Materials and Tools:

- Key code (obtained from a vehicle’s lock, the manufacturer, or a database)

- Appropriate blank key

- Laser key cutting machine with built in database

or

Manual code cutting machine with key code software via App or Computer Software

- Safety glasses (for eye protection)

Procedure:

  1. Key Code Verification: Double-check the accuracy of the key code you obtained. Ensure it matches the specific make and model of the vehicle.

  2. Select the Correct Blank Key: Choose a blank key that matches the keyway profile and type specified in the key code.

  3. Load the Key Code into the Machine: If using an electronic laser key cutting machine (Xhorse Dolphin/Sec-E9), the built in software will guide the laser cutter in replicating the key accurately based on the DSD data the key code provides. If using a manual code cutting machine, like the HPC 1200 Blitz, you would have to print out a corresponding “card” to put into the machine. to manually set each space and then cut the depth.

  4. Secure the Blank Key: Place the blank key securely in the machine's clamps, ensuring it's properly aligned and held firmly in place.

  5. Begin the Cutting Process: If using an automatic laser cutting machine, press “cut key” and the machine will confirm the cutter and probe are calibrated. The laser cutter will follow the instructions precisely to create cuts on the blank key according to the key code. If using a manual code cutting machine, like the HPC 1200 Blitz, you would manually move to each space and then cut the depth.

  6. Inspect the Key: After the cutting process is complete, inspect the duplicate key to verify that the cuts align accurately with the key code.

  7. Smooth Any Rough Edges: If you find any rough edges or burrs on the duplicate key, use a file or brush wheel to smooth them out.
