The Modern JavaScript Bootcamp (2019)

Have you tried to learn JavaScript before?

JavaScript is the most popular programming language out there, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to learn. You end up wasting time on out-of-date courses and incomplete YouTube tutorials that talk about a JavaScript features without showing how to use them when building real-world applications.

Sound familiar?

I built this course to teach you how to build and launch your own JavaScript web applications.

The Modern JavaScript Bootcamp starts from scratch and builds up your knowledge of the JavaScript language. Yes, you’ll learn all the features of the language, but you’ll also learn how to use those features together to create a complete application.

This comprehensive course covers the modern ES6 and ES7 JavaScript features used in the real world. You’ll gain an understanding of the latest cutting-edge language features.

Getting experience writing code on your own is a big part of learning JavaScript. That’s why I’ve included over 80 challenges designed to get you writing code, adding app features, and solving a wide range of problems. These challenges will give you the skills and confidence needed to create your own web application.

There are no starter projects here. You’ll see what it takes to launch a JavaScript application, from the first line of code to the final deployed application.

Who’s this course for?

1. People who are brand new to JavaScript. You want to dive into the world of programming and learn JavaScript. This might be your first programming course, or maybe you’ve worked with other languages before. Either way, you’re ready for this bootcamp.

2. People who currently use JavaScript but want a better sense of mastery over the language. You picked up little tricks and snippets of code because you needed to solve a problem. Now you’re ready to master JavaScript as well as explore the latest from ES6 and ES7.

You’ll learn JavaScript by doing, not watching.

This course is not about watching videos, it’s about writing code. From the start, you’ll be building out each project from scratch as well as completing over 80 challenges designed to test and reinforce what you’ve learned.

During the class, you’ll build three JavaScript applications:

1. The first app, a note-taking app, is our starter application. You’ll learn the fundamentals of JavaScript and see exactly what it takes to build a program that allows users to add, edit, delete, and save their notes.

2. The second app, a to-do application, you’ll be building on your own. This will test your skills and ensure that you have the real-world experience and problem-solving skills that are essential for writing JavaScript code.

3. The last app, a hangman word game, is used to explore the world of asynchronous JavaScript. You’ll learn how to set up applications that rely on data from third-party services that can offer up dynamic, real-time information such as the user’s current location.

Stay current in an ever changing world.

The world of JavaScript is always changing, and that’s why I work to keep this course as up-to-date as possible. You can join knowing you’ll be learning the fundamentals of the language as well as the new language features that keep coming out.

This course uses the latest language features from ES6 and ES7.

Everything you need comes in one easy-to-use package.

There’s no need to worry if you’re learning the right skills to land that JavaScript job or launch that JavaScript app. I’ve mapped out everything you need to know in an interactive, easy-to-follow package designed to get you up and running in a couple of weeks.

By the end, you’ll be able to build and launch your own applications.

There’s no better time to learn JavaScript.

You’ve made a smart choice, because JavaScript is the most popular programming language out there. This is no exaggeration. This popularity and growth means more jobs and opportunities than ever before.

JavaScript powers the web. That means every company out there uses JavaScript, and the demand for JavaScript developers is only increasing. Companies from Google and Apple to Udemy itself all use JavaScript extensively.

JavaScript doesn’t stop with the web. It has quickly become a universal programming language capable of anything. JavaScript can be used to create desktop apps, server-side applications, native iOS/Android applications, and so much more. This course is your ticket into that ecosystem.

Get access to fast support if you get stuck.

There’s nothing worse than getting stuck ten hours into a course and not getting the help you need to continue. Getting stuck is part of the learning process. That’s why I’m here to answer every single question that comes my way.

I’ll work with you to get you unstuck and back on track. It’s one of the reasons students love taking my courses. Don’t take my word for it. Check out the student reviews below.

I can’t wait to see you on the inside.

highly recommend in 38 reviews

I highly recommend this course for beginners and intermediate levels of JavaScript as well.

I highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to get into the language -- whether total newbie or a veteran coming from other platforms.

I highly recommend this course!

I would highly recommend this for everyone as the course builds layer upon layer of information and techniques.

Therefore, I highly recommend viewing the lesson videos from start to challenge point without trying to code along during the first viewing.

I would highly recommend this course for anyone who is starting from scratch (and judging by some of the Q&As it would be useful to people who already know something about JavaScript).

I'd highly recommend this course for anyone who'd like to get up to speed with modern JS landscape.

Highly recommend!

real world in 16 reviews

He is an excellent instructor not only because his deep knowledge of JavaScript but mainly for his teaching strategy of going from simple concepts and examples to more complex real world apps.

The real world apps you create are simple enough to allow you to learn the key concepts, but also useful enough to keep you interested and that you can use to expand on to create your own apps.

He goes over everything in detail and explains how what he's teaching applies to real world examples.

After these lectures, I come to find out some interesting feature of JavaScript i got Self-independent Strategy in each challenge Andrew is putting , i got to be more Active and more Aware about this amazing language and it's Different Powerful Purposes in different areas of life , also i feel like i bacame more confident of my self as the instructor really explain the details and play with it in different manners trying to put it in different Exams and Challenges for me this one of the most advantages about this Course i think a very few things are remaining in this course which are more about real world Problems experience that faces developpers in their real way for creating a functional app ..... and i guess Andrew also to be fair worked alot on this point especially there are approximately a different ways he approaches his concepts either by make you search alot on internet reading different threads and searching for the answer with different methods ....... hope nothing but the best for Andrew and all his teaching Assistants u really did alot for us guys .... thanls for the team and for everyone wishing you nothing but the best Cheers , Steven Andrew does an amazing job of teaching the fundamentals of Javascript.

He teaches all the things which are necessary to be learnt in order to make amazing real world applications.

While the challenges tend to be a little simplistic, at least at the start of the course, there's no reason you can't make them more complex and interesting by adding some real world knowledge.

Andrew is great at explaining things and the real world examples have really helped me learn the language!

step by step in 12 reviews

Slowly step by step we can build an awesome application from scratch.

Hi, Andrew is start in run javascript in terminal,it is awasome choice andrew, and explain in step by step very slowly and dive into javascript and i think andrew is good instructer, and i reaily like to complete this course and join to other courses in andrew, thanks(ex,react and nodejs) Andrew Mead's courses are the best on Udemy!

The courses are highly organized, so that you can actually learn things step by step without losing your track.

Excellent introduction of each concept using clear examples, good pace, relevant exercises to confirm what you've learned, building upon concepts step by step, clear voice, useful projects.

He presents complex material in a very easy to understand manner with real world examples and step by step coding this is great.

Very informative a explicação está clara e compreensível até agora I really like the way the teacher is running this course Step by step instructions and clear speaking voice are excellent Nice and clear so far, early days though :) Wonderful tutorial Clear and concise.

I would recommend this course over others to those seeking to learn JavaScript Breaks down what to do and how to run everything step by step.

I'd used utilities in other courses to generate a project that included Babel and/or Webpack but Andrew's manual step by step walk-thru to create your own project template is invaluable for understanding in detail what these utilities do and how they can be configured.

not only in 12 reviews

Not only are all the key features of modern JavaScript being taught, but the way he approaches each of them is really awesome: each time he introduces a new concept and shows how to apply it, he invites students to tackle a small challenge that is just right to make them practice what they just learned.

Would definitely recommend this course not only for beginners, but also for people who just want to refresh their knowledge and maybe understand certain concepts better.

the second half is where Andrew really shined and showed me that he was not only experienced but also very engaging.

Not only that there are challenges along the way which is a must if you are going to learn anything and it stick in your mind!!!!!!

He is not only well grounded in what he teaches but he does have also the best way to get someone to quickly grasp the meaning of the taught topic.

To me, knowledge about language should not only gauged by its coding skills master but how to model the real life things .Besides his excellent skills to teach ,Andrew does have just that technical know how to get you the most out of his courses.

The word "modern" in the course's title is not a trick: the course not only covers recent JavaScript features like classes, rest, destructuring, etc.

Not only is he an extremely talented developer, but one of the best teachers I've come across thus far.

his teaching style in 8 reviews

Additionally, his teaching style is superior to other udemy instructors in my humble opinion.

His teaching style is unique and truly different from other teachers.

I like his teaching style.

His teaching style is professional and friendly.

Not only is his teaching style as in-depth as you need, he is also very fast to respond to student's questions, and when I say fast I mean "24 hours tops" fast.

Overall I like his teaching style... that is pretty much the gist.

Also, this teaching style with constant challenges is really useful to actually retain the information.

I would compare his teaching style to reading a book that you can't put down!
