Basketball is not slow and soft — it’s fast paced and explosive. In this lesson learn how to train with a level of intensity to be fit enough to enjoy the game and to protect your body from injury.
Learn how to spring high, while reducing the stress on your body. Do this simple drill at least three times a day!
In this plyometrics session you will learn how to jump better and with more control as you power up and land lightly. See how to use your arms to propel yourself up. Remember safety first: don't overdo it and don't attempt to jump too high too soon.
Traditional sit ups can be potentially dangerous for your neck, so try these alternative abdominal exercises to build a stomach of steel.
Discover why Coach Browne thinks push ups are the secret to being a great basketball player and critical if you want to improve your development and maximize your jumping and scoring potential.
Learn how to handle and manipulate the basketball with this two ball dribbling drill.
Whether you’re a beginner or pro, when you have a ball in your hands you need to set your feet wide and get your butt low for a powerful, strong stance from which you can move in any direction. Where possible train with two balls so both hands get strong and so when you’re playing with one ball it becomes much easier to handle.
Use these drills to improve your dribbling by keeping the ball low and being ready to pass at any moment. Learn how to crossover from one hand to the other and how to strengthen your weaker side. Discover how your fingers direct and manipulate the ball - because wherever you point your fingers is where the ball goes!
If you are a beginner, these drills are perfect to get you started off and progressing to perfecting the crossover as you learn to manipulate the ball around your body and through your legs.
Follow these progressions on both the left hand and the right — to learn how to move the ball while keeping your eyes focused on everything you need to see… except the ball.
Get to know your basketball! The more you understand how to manipulate it, the greater control you’ll have at training and at games. Learn to keep the ball moving as fast as you can by manipulating the ball with your fingers, above your head, below the waist, around the body.
“Hard work pays off” - discover why that’s Coach Browne’s motto… and why it should be yours too!
Shooting. That’s what everyone wants to do, but not everyone knows how to do it well. Learn how to work hard, make adjustments, eradicate bad habits and get on the right path to becoming a great shooter like Klay Thompson and Steph Curry.
Learn how to build your shot up with BEEF (Balance, Elbow, Eyes, Follow Through) and before you know it, the ball will be flowing off the backboard and into the basket without hitting the rim.
Make every shot from out front count! Learn to use a single flowing movement to push the ball into the net without hitting the rim. Get the feel of your fingers nice and wide on the ball to get control and to rotate nice, straight and evenly. Build your form by starting in close and work your way out.
Develop the footwork and rhythm you need to run in, plant and shoot with flow and accuracy, every time.
Don’t stand still and wait, learn how to keep moving so it’s harder for the defence to beat you to the ball as it’s passed to you and then transition from the catch to the shot without breaking your flow. Plus learn to pass the ball right into the pocket of the shooter’s hands consistently.
The layup is one of the most basic shots, so there’s no excuse not to do it well! Learn how to always make balanced layups by breaking it down into “one dribble, two steps” as you establish your angle to create your advantage, get around your opponents, off balance defenders and go up nice and strong. Every time!
A bad pass can often lead to a bad shot, so in this lesson you’ll learn how to always make a good pass and create the opportunity for a good shot.
Learn how to make a great bounce pass: judge the distance, point your fingers and toes, plant your foot, and push the ball towards the target.
Your teammates will love it when they just have to catch and shoot! Learn how to make the ball flow from your chest straight to your team mate’s chest as you pass and follow through.
Learn how to get the ball from one end of the floor to the other end of the floor to create a fast break situation, especially from a rebound. Also learn a variation that works for smaller or less strong players.
Work with a friend to learn and practice the basic Bounce Pass, Chest Pass, Baseball Pass and more, from both the right and the left hand. No teammate to play with, no problem! Just make your passes against a spot on a wall as if you’re passing to another player.
Rebounding is one of the most crucial aspects of the game. Learn how to position yourself, jump high and hold your space with this drill — and you can do it on your own or with a friend.
Learn how to be aware of what’s going on around you and how to turn your body in the air so you can land and immediately pass to your teammates because you know exactly where they are. Once you have made your pass know where you need to move to as the game progresses — you never spectate when you’re in a game!
Whether you’re attacking or defending, boxing out is critical because it’s when you get a good position in front of your opponents to take possession of the ball after a rebound. Learn how to move and position your body, how to always be aware, how to use your back to block your opponents. Plus learn how to communicate with your teammates so that they know what’s going on without having to see everything that’s happening.
In offence, don’t get down on yourself if you miss a shot — learn how to go after the rebound, because that’s how you get you back into an attacking position. Plus, if you’re defending, learn how to turn the rebound into an opportunity to attack.
Develop footwork for both offence and defence and learn how to keep balanced and connected throughout the game.
In offence learn how to match your opponent's stance to keep the advantage, stay strong and keep them at bay so you can open up your shot.
Learn how to get around your opponent by jabbing out then stepping in to leave them behind.
Own your opponents with these footwork progressions.
Get faster and build your speed on the court with these simple footwork drills.
For our final lesson we’ll focus on mental strength! A winning mindset is about programming yourself to bring out the best in yourself through Coach Browne’s “Analyse, Register & Execute” philosophy.
