In this lecture you shall learn about the evolution of legal tech starting from the introduction of the computer-assisted-legal-research (CALR) in the pre-internet era right upto the present. We shall experience the roller coaster journey of the legal tech pioneer Lexis (now Lexisnexis) inventing the red UBIQ terminal to power legal research, Legalzoom doing it with online legal documents and Rocket Lawyer providing affordable online legal help. We shall also see how the present cutting edge tech is catapulting it into uncharted territory and completely changing the face of law as it was always known.

At the end of this lecture you shall have an understanding of the legal tech landscape from an operational, technological and market perspective. The three perspectives overlap at many places. To make things clear we shall use the key landscapes described by leading research organisations from time to time and make a holistic sense of it.
