Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are a type of cyberattack in which a malicious actor attempts to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service, or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic. DDoS attacks can be launched from a single computer or from a botnet, which is a network of compromised computers that can be used to launch a coordinated attack. DDoS attacks can cause a variety of problems, including website outages, slowdowns, and crashes. DDoS attacks can also be used to extort money from victims or to disrupt the operations of businesses and governments.
