Church history is the academic study of the history of Christianity. It is a subfield of the broader field of religious studies, and it draws on a variety of disciplines, including history, theology, and sociology. Church historians seek to understand the development of Christian thought, practice, and institutions over time, and they do so by studying a wide range of sources, including texts, artifacts, and archaeological sites.
