Conditional Functions in Microsoft Excel are used to evaluate a particular logical expression and return a result. These functions can be employed in a variety of scenarios to manipulate and analyze data in a spreadsheet.

Types of Conditional Functions

There are several types of conditional functions in Excel, each serving a specific purpose:

  • IF Function: The IF function evaluates a logical expression and returns one value if the expression is TRUE and another value if the expression is FALSE. This function is the most commonly used conditional function.
  • IFS Function: The IFS function extends the functionality of the IF function by allowing you to specify multiple conditions and corresponding values. It evaluates each condition in sequence and returns the first matching value.
  • CHOOSE Function: The CHOOSE function allows you to select a value from a list of options based on a specified index. It evaluates an index number and returns the corresponding value from the list.
  • SWITCH Function: Introduced in Excel 2019, the SWITCH function provides a more concise and readable way to evaluate multiple conditions and return values.
