ExpressRoute is a Microsoft Azure service that lets you create private connections between Azure and your on-premises networks. ExpressRoute connections do not go over the public Internet, and they offer higher security, reliability, and performance than traditional Internet connections. You can use ExpressRoute to connect to Azure Virtual Networks (VNets), Azure Cloud Services, and Azure Storage.
Benefits of ExpressRoute
ExpressRoute offers several benefits over traditional Internet connections, including:
-
Higher security: ExpressRoute connections are private and do not go over the public Internet. This makes them less susceptible to eavesdropping and other security threats.
-
Higher reliability: ExpressRoute connections are more reliable than traditional Internet connections. This is because they are not subject to the same congestion and latency issues that can affect Internet connections.
-
Higher performance: ExpressRoute connections offer higher performance than traditional Internet connections. This is because they have lower latency and jitter.
How ExpressRoute Works
ExpressRoute connections are created using a dedicated circuit between your on-premises network and an Azure peering location. The peering location is a point of presence (PoP) where Azure's network meets your on-premises network. You can connect to Azure using a variety of different connection types, including Ethernet, MPLS, and VPN.
