Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are a type of objective assessment used to measure knowledge and understanding. They consist of a stem, which presents a question or incomplete statement, and a set of response options from which the test-taker must choose the correct answer. MCQs are widely used in educational settings, as well as in standardized testing and professional certification exams.
Types of Multiple Choice Questions
There are various types of MCQs, each with its own format and purpose:
-
Single-choice questions: Present a single stem with a set of response options, from which the test-taker must select the one that best answers the question.
-
Multiple-choice questions: Similar to single-choice questions, but allow the test-taker to select multiple correct answers from the response options.
-
True/False questions: Present a statement and require the test-taker to indicate whether it is true or false.
-
Fill-in-the-blank questions: Provide a stem with a blank space, and the test-taker must fill in the missing word or phrase.
-
Matching questions: Present two sets of items, and the test-taker must match each item from one set to its corresponding item in the other set.
