Magnetostatics
Magnetostatics is a concern with the physics of stationary electric charges and electric and magnetic fields generated by such charges. In magnetostatics, we ignore the effects of time-varying electric and magnetic fields and assume that the system is in a steady state.
Applications of Magnetostatics
Magnetostatics finds applications in many areas of science and engineering, including:
- Electromagnetism - Magnetostatics is used to analyze and design electromagnetic devices such as transformers, motors, and generators.
- Maglev systems - Magnetostatics is used to design and operate magnetic levitation systems, which use magnetic fields to lift and propel trains.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - Magnetostatics is used to generate the magnetic fields used in MRI scanners, which are used to create images of the inside of the body.
