Certificate Authority Hierarchy

3 minute read
Certificate Authority (CA) Hierarchy forms the backbone of the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), ensuring trust and security in digital interactions. It is an organized structure of CAs, each with a defined level of authority and trust relationships, to issue and manage digital certificates.
Understanding CA Hierarchy
A CA hierarchy has multiple levels, with a root CA at the top. The root CA is the most trusted entity and issues certificates to intermediate CAs. Intermediate CAs, in turn, issue certificates to lower-level CAs or end-entity certificates to website owners, organizations, or individuals.
