May 11, 2024 3 minute read

IP routing is the process of directing IP packets from a source to a destination, typically across multiple networks or subnetworks. It enables communication between devices on different networks and ensures that data is delivered to the correct recipient.

What is IP Routing?

IP routing involves a set of protocols and mechanisms that determine the path that data packets take through a network. Each device on the network has a unique IP address, and routers use routing tables to determine the best route for packets to take based on their destination IP addresses.

The routing table stores information about the available paths to different subnetworks and the metric used to determine the best path, such as latency, bandwidth, or cost.
