Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and war, is among the most important and well-known figures in Greek mythology. Her symbol is the owl, and she is often depicted as a beautiful woman wielding a spear and a shield, with a helmet on her head. Athena is worshipped as the patron goddess of Athens, and her name is thought to derive from the Greek word for owl, "Athene."
