An Introduction to Thai Grammar

Thai grammar, at its core, is the system that structures the Thai language, the official language of Thailand spoken by over 70 million people. Unlike many European languages, Thai is what linguists call an analytic and tonal language. This means that instead of changing word endings to indicate tense or plurality (inflection), Thai relies on word order and special-purpose words called particles. Furthermore, the pitch at which a word is spoken can completely change its meaning, a concept known as tone.
