Dial Plan is a set of instructions that tells a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) how to handle incoming and outgoing calls. It is an essential part of any VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) system, as it determines how calls are routed, what features are available to users, and how calls are recorded and billed.
Understanding Dial Plans
Dial plans are typically written in a text-based language and consist of a series of commands that define how calls should be handled. These commands can be used to:
- Route calls to specific extensions
- Provide users with access to features such as call forwarding, voicemail, and conferencing
- Record calls for quality assurance or compliance
- Bill calls based on duration, destination, or other criteria
